Deep in the Pocket, Still No Change

by The Benton Roark Band (featuring members of Rollaway)

On the heels of recent projects such as Rollaway (“dirty-southern-gothic-rock-country-folk”, Discorder Magazine) and Arkora (a “mysterious landscape of instrumental timbre”, WholeNote Magazine) comes the latest from composer, songwriter, and bandleader Benton Roark: Deep in the Pocket, Still No Change by The Benton Roark Band. As his sixth release of original material, Deep in the Pocket was co-produced by Roark and Guillermo Subauste, recorded in Toronto, Vancouver, and Austin, TX, and featuring an all-star consortium of musicians from across the continent (including Rollaway members Adam Tryczynski, Adam Jones, and Julia Pinckney among others). An alt-country record with edges of jazz, rock, and rhythm n blues, this project marks a turn to extroverted song writing for Roark, comprising ten songs about cross country adventures, backwoods parties, ghost stories, lingering indiscretions, and magic automobiles.
